March 25th

Picked up my clients on North Captiva island this morning.  Another slow morning in the flats of Charlotte Harbor led us to an exciting adventure.  Mid morning we packed up our gear and made a cruise out of Captiva Pass and into the Gulf of Mexico.

We caught Mackerel between 2 and 5 pounds

Tuesday March 24th

Today was a slow day in the Backcountry Flats for me today.  I struggled to get anything good going.  We did manage to catch a rat redfish, a few small Snook, and an assortment of other random fish.  Not the day I expected to have but we call it Fishing not catching.......

March 19th-22

Traveled to Lake Kissimmee and fished a Largemouth Bass Tournament.  I ended up taking 3rd place with 22lbs 11oz.   I was 10oz away from second!  The Big Bass of the weekend went to John Harwell Jr with a monster 8lb 10oz'er (Picture Below)

Fishing Report Thursday March 5

What happens when two Charter Fishing Captain's have the same day off work???

Yesterday, Captain Nick Wenzel and I loaded up our significant others in the boat for an afternoon of fun in the sun.  Captain Nick is a life long friend of mine and we have fished together since we were young kids.  When we get in a boat together our minds collectively think of one thing........"Big Snook" or "Big Snuuke" as the old-timer's say.  Today was no different.

Targeting big fish in the backcountry can be hours of boredom followed by minutes of excitement.  Its an all or none type of fishing.  But the reward of the wait is always worth the waiting..........

In just under 4 hours of fishing for big fish only, we caught 3 oversized Redfish (9,10,10.5lbs) and one monster Snookasaurus!  The Snook went 40" and had an estimated weight over 20lbs...........Needless to say it was a successful adventure, just look at the girls big smiles!

Fishing Report

Monday March 2, 2015
Monday mornings half day of inshore fishing was a good one.  Fishing was slow for the first hour or so until the fog burnt off.  Around 10am, the sun came out to play and so did the fish.  We started out with a great trout bite.  Most were small, but all were fun to catch.  After spending an hour of constant action on smaller trout we decided to try our luck with a dinner sized Snook.  No luck, those big frozen logs still need some time to thaw, so we moved on.  We hopped around a few times catching a random fish or two at each spot until we found a nice school of Redfish.  We managed to catch a half dozen of almost legal Redfish before it was time to head back to the dock.
The weather is warming, Spring is here,  Fishing should continue to get better as the water temp warms.  I predict that next week the BITE is going to erupt in the backcountry.  That sort of bite we all dream about.......
